10 Sets From Rainbow Serpent 2018 Artists To Get You Festival Ready

by Isabel Thomson Officer

This coming weekend, Rainbow Serpent Festival is celebrating a very special birthday, it’s turning 21, and we couldn’t be happier for the King of Aussie bush doofs.

The epic four day transformational music, arts and lifestyle festival is a highlight on the calendar for underground dance music fans who flock from all corners of the Australian continent and the world to experience the amazing energy and vibe that Rainbow is known for.

This year’s lineup like past years is once again exceptionally impressive covering a wide range of music genres and an excellent representation of Australian talent to give the internationals a run for their money.

So with just a few sleeps left we thought we’d put together a list of sets we love from ten of the artists on the lineup to get you in the groove.

Chiara Kickdrum

Italian born Melbourne based producer, Chiara Kickdrum is one to keep an eye on Down Under. Her eerie driving techno sounds have caught our attention and we can’t wait to see where her career takes her over the coming years.

For a taste of things to come this weekend, make sure you listen to this:

Gabriel Ananda

The German radio host’s monthly podcast Soulful Techno is exactly that - super fucking soulful techno music. If you aren’t on this, then follow this guy on Soundcloud already. His set’s are peppered with commentary on how he’s feeling, what’s running through his mind and about the music he’s playing. Be sure to check out last month’s session while you’re stuck in festival traffic, it’s bloody beautiful.

GMJ

There’s no doubt this guy has a passion for deep, progressive and emotive house music. One of Melbourne’s talents that is one to watch, GMJ already charters support from international industry heavyweights including Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, John Digweed and more. We are loving his set from Rainbow last year and are expecting similar him to bring similar vibes this weekend coming.

Microtrauma

Keeping the German representation strong, techno production duo Microtrauma aside from being excellent producers, are also highly skilled selectors. Have a listen to this melodic set whilst you’re packing all those fabulous costumes you just spent months making.

Michael Mayer

The Kompakt Records label head’s set at DGTL at ADE back in 2015 was one for the books. Get yourself in the Michael Mayer know with this gem!

Mike Callander

When we snapped up Callander for a Fiction Lab exclusive mix and interview last year, we were beyond excited. How lucky were we to work with one of Australia’s best deep house and techno producers?

If you haven’t yet, make sure you check out the beautiful mix he made for us, we still find ourselves going back to it even months later. Thanks again Mike!

Miss Melera

Based in Amsterdam, Miss Melera is a true force to be reckoned with who has been honing her craft as a DJ and producer over the last ten years. A techno babe through and through, Miss Melera seamlessly blends techno, tech house and deep house creating smooth melodic journeys and magical dancefloor moments.

Be sure to listen to her set recorded at Toronto’s CODA nightclub from October last year, it’s pretty epic.

Patrice Baumel

Patrice is one of those talents that has been around for a long time, and just continues to blow our minds. His set on Pete Tong’s Essential Mix was without a doubt the 2017 winner. It would be a techno crime not to listen to it before catching him on the Rainbow dancefloor.

Solee

The Parquet Recordings label head has put out some pretty solid tracks over the year. Many will know him for his 2012 track “Zebra” which took dancefloors by storm for a while there.

Check out his set at ADE from 2016, it’s pretty awesome.

Tara Brooks

LA’s Tara Brooks, long associated with the Burning Man Playa touches down at Rainbow Serpent this week bringing her dusty deep house beats with her. Get your groove on with her latest mix:
